Emma McQuaid May update
May has been a hectic month for Emma McQuaid 17 from Newry Co Down Northern Ireland
The month got underway with a quad practice day at Tinker Hill in Newry.
Emma was then on her way to Timahoe in Portlaoise where she was riding her
J.M.Quads YFZ450 Yamaha in the B support class.The race consisted of 18 mins
plus 1 lap. Emma took the lead from the early stages and led to the final
lap where she was over taken and finished in 2nd place.
Emma emerged runner up on the days event.
Emma's next race was the 2nd round of the UlsterChampionship
at Desertmartin.With 44 riders in the line up it was a battle of wills to
the first corner.
Emma was 5th to the corner and made her way up to 1st place but a bad
accident on the track meant the race was cancelled and she was put back to 4th place.
In her next race she unfortunately burst her tyre and rode the
remainder of the race on the rim.She actually set the fastest lap time
even though she had burst the tyre. At the end of the meeting she was second
overall,which was another outstanding feat.
Emma was then back at Timahoe in Portloise,where the weather was kind to
her.She led in the opening race but her chain became loose and she fell well down the pack.
In the second race of the day she led the race again but as she came down
of one of the jumps in doing so bent her back brake disc luckily it was close
to the chequered flag and she took runner up position.
Emma had a brilliant run in her final race of the event,she led from start
to finish and she finished 3rd overall on the day.
The month ended for emma when she participated in the round of the Ulster
Championship at Tandragee.Forty four riders on the grid together to
qualify,Emma qualified in 2nd place.In her first race of the day she led
the race to the final stages but had a misfire and finished runner up.
In her final race of the day the heavens opened and the conditions were
appauling but she battled and finished fourth place to the overall runner
up place at the end of the event.
Into June and on the 9th a round of the British Quad Championship at Desertmartin Northern Ireland.
Emma competed in the quad A support race. With Sixty three
competitors Emma qualified 3rd in her race and 8th overall. Emma finished
her first race in 8th place and her second in 17th place due to a break down
in the early stages of her race, the third race was cancelled due to an
accident on the track. Emma still managed to hold on to 8th place at the
end of the day.
Emma raced at Timahoe on Sunday and finished 3rd in her first race and 5th
in her second race leaving her 5th overall on the day.
