Quads Make Headlines Again
Quads Make Headlines Again
The Mail on Sunday reported that David Maclean, the author of the new legislation limiting voters’ rights to know about their MP’s pay and perks, last night admitted that his top-of-the-range 250cc all-terrain vehicle was paid for out of taxpayer funded allowances.
The Tory philanderer bought the £3,300 quad bike on parliamentary allowances. Mr Maclean who has a reputation for having had a series of extramarital affairs said yesterday ‘Yes, I do have a Quad bike and yes, I have bought it on expenses’. The former Home Minister insists that he needs his silver E-Ton Vector Quad to get around his large rural constituency. He went on to explain ‘I have the biggest constituency in the country and I attend several big agricultural shows throughout the year. I can take the quad anywhere. I could even take it TT racing in the Isle of Man’. He added that due to his disability ‘ I could use a mobility scooter, I suppose, but it would probably get stuck’.
His controversial Private Members Bill was passed in the Commons on Friday, despite claims that it was a shameful bid to conceal embarrassing details about MP’s expenses! If the Bill becomes law, it will be harder for voters to find out details about individual claims – such as Mr Macleans own reimbursement by the Commons authorities for the Quad bike.
Irrespective of how Mr Maclean paid for his Quad, we need more senior figures to endorse the versatility and advantages of using Quads safely on UK roads. He should have bought the two seater versions now available,( http://www.2rapid.com/acatalog/260_ST_Road_Legal_Buggy.html ) so he could have taken his mistress around with him!
